DRCS HOSTS 3RD NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL SPEECH COMPETITION

Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands, 18 March 2026 – The Department of Rehabilitation and Community Supervision (DRCS), in partnership with Toastmasters International and the Rotary Club of Providenciales, successfully hosted its 3rd National High School Speech Competition on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, bringing together students from across the entire country. 

The competition formed part of DRCS's continuous initiatives to encourage positive expression, youth involvement, and awareness of prevention, rehabilitation, and second chances. The event, which brought together ten (10) high schools from across the nation under the theme "The Turning Point: How Early Intervention Can Change the Path for At-Risk Youth," showcased students' talent, creativity, and critical thinking on issues affecting youth and society.

After a highly competitive event, the top three placements were awarded as follows:

1st Place: Tessenya Pyne (HJ Robinson High School)
2nd Place: Jonathan Malabre (Precious Treasures International School)
3rd Place: Merbelie Obei (Raymond Gardiner High School)

Speaking on the initiative, Hon. Otis Morris, Minister of Public Safety and Utilities, stated: “This competition highlights the importance of investing in our young people and providing them with meaningful opportunities to develop confidence, critical thinking, and communication skills. Initiatives such as this support positive youth development and reinforce the values of responsibility, accountability, and second chances within our communities. I commend DRCS and its partners for their continued efforts in creating opportunities that empower our young people.”

DRCS extends its sincere appreciation to all sponsors, participating schools, teachers, judges, and all students who contributed to the success of this year’s competition. The Department remains committed to creating opportunities that empower young people, strengthen early intervention efforts, and support the development of a safer and more resilient Turks and Caicos Islands.
