Job Overview:
As an Election Day Worker, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and fair conduct of elections within your district. Working under the supervision of the Election Officer, you will be responsible for various tasks at the polling station, including voter assistance, ballot distribution, monitoring of voting equipment, and maintaining orderliness throughout the voting process.
Responsibilities:
1. Assist Voters: Provide guidance and assistance to voters regarding the voting process, including registration procedures, ballot marking, and voting equipment operation.
2. Distribute Ballots: Hand out ballots to eligible voters and ensure that each voter receives the correct ballot according to their district and registration status.
3. Monitor Voting Equipment: Ensure that all voting machines and equipment are set up and functioning properly. Troubleshoot any technical issues that may arise during voting hours and report them to the Election Officer.
4. Maintain Order: Enforce voting regulations and procedures to maintain order and prevent disruptions at the polling station. Manage lines and queues to facilitate smooth voter flow.
5. Verify Voter Identification: Verify the identity of voters by checking their identification documents and registration status before issuing ballots.
6. Assist with Special Needs: Provide assistance to voters with disabilities or special needs to ensure that they can participate in the voting process independently and confidentially.
7. Count Ballots: Assist with the counting and tabulation of ballots at the end of the voting day, following established procedures and guidelines.
8. Report Incidents: Report any incidents or irregularities observed during the voting process to the Election Officer or appropriate authorities.
Qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to work well under pressure and maintain composure in a fast-paced environment.
· Reliable and punctual, with a commitment to upholding the integrity of the electoral process.
· Prior experience working in a customer service or public-facing role is desirable but not required.
Working Conditions:
· This position requires standing for extended periods and may involve some lifting and carrying of supplies.
· Shifts may vary in length but typically range from 8 to 12 hours.
· Poll workers must be available to work on Election Day and attend any required training sessions beforehand.
