PRESS RELEASE
INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2020
The Department of Gender Affairs, within the Ministry of Education, Youth, Culture, Social and Library Services joins the rest of the world in observance of International Women’s Day (IWD) on March 8, 2020 under the official theme “EachforEqual; The will to Lead the Foundation to Empower”
An equal world is an enabled world and women throughout the region, including the Turks and Caicos Islands, have shattered many glass ceilings. However, despite the progress made for the advancement of Gender equality, there are still some underlying issues that remain. The will to lead and the foundation are symbolic of progress, where organizations and individuals remain vigilant in support of gender equality through multitude of initiatives, causes and actions.
International Women’s Day is annual commemoration to celebrate women from all walks of life throughout the Turks and Caicos Islands. This year’s activities will highlight and reflect on women from various spheres of influence, and the work they have contributed to improving conditions of women and girls economically, politically and socially.
As customary, the Department of Gender Affairs, will be hosting activities across the TCI in observance of International Women’s Day 2020. Our goal is to inspire and mentor others to think of ways for reducing gender inequality and to amplify women’s voices as they share their stories, learn from one another, and impact the next generation to take action towards an Each for Equal future.
Among the celebratory activities is an Awards and Honors Banquet, under the Distinguished Patronage of the Hon. Karen Malcolm, Minister of Education, Youth, Culture, Social and Library Services. The highlight of this event will be recognizing and honoring women for their outstanding contributions in various categories. The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday March, 7, at Yellow Man and Son’s auditorium, commencing at 6:30 p.m. which features a renowned guest speaker and performances by local artists.
On Sunday March 8, 2020, there will be an ecumenical Church Service, schedule to be held 11:00 a.m. simultaneously across the Turks and Caicos Islands.
